We are known as Unitarians or Unitarian Universalists.  We are a religion.  We are not, as a faith group, part of any other religion.  This means Unitarians as a group are not Christians, or Jews, or Buddhists.  If you are talking about us you can call us Unitarians (in Canada and some of Europe) or Unitarian Universalists or UUs (in the United States and other parts of Europe).  We have congregations all over the world, with the highest concentration in the United States.  Some of us feel a strong affinity with other religious traditions, and define ourselves with both names: Christian UU, Jewish UU, pagan Unitarian, for example.

Some of us believe in a god or many gods, some of us do not.

Our congregations and their buildings are called congregations (First Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa), churches (First Unitarian Church of Westport), temples (Unity Temple), fellowships (East End Fellowship), and a variety of other names.

If you are absolutely new to UUism, we suggest you investigate these links (INSERT EXISTING INTRO LINKS OR LINK TO SAME)
  • Two paragraphs about Unitarian Universalism from the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA).
  • a FAQ (frequently asked questions) list about Unitarian Universalism from the First Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa.
  • a newcomers' site, also from the UUA.
