Meet Jane Perry, Music Director

Jane Perry has been the Music Director at the First Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa since August 2000. She is a graduate of the Master of Music programme (chamber music specialization) at the University of Ottawa. Jane also holds an Associate diploma (piano performance) from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. In autumn 1998, Jane was an Artist-in-Residence at the Banff Centre for the Arts.

Jane’s education as a choral conductor happened through observing many fine Ottawa conductors from her vantage point as a rehearsal pianist for the Cantata Singers of Ottawa, the Canadian Centennial Choir, the University of Ottawa Chorale, Opera Lyra Ottawa Chorus, the Ottawa Bach Choir, and the Ottawa Gay Men’s Chorus. Now in her eighth year as a choral conductor herself, Jane conducts two choirs at the First Unitarian Congregation and is the music director of Tone Cluster (quite a queer choir!), a GLBT-and-friends ensemble in Ottawa.

In Ottawa, Jane is in demand as a chamber musician and piano teacher by day; by night, she is a jazz pianist. Jane is looking forward to being the rehearsal and performance pianist for the Ontario Youth Choir (Linda Beaupre, conductor) in August 2008.
