Welcome to the website of the 1st Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa. I believe that you will find here much of the information you need to learn about our congregation and about Unitarian-Universalism. I would like to extend an invitation to you to visit us, whether you have been involved with Unitarian or Universalist congregations in the past, or if you are searching for a spiritual home. Elsewhere in this website you may have seen that the mission of our congregation is: “We kindle the light within and inspire courage: To nurture the web of life, and, To create a just and compassionate world.” We in the congregation believe that it is our work both to kindle the light and to inspire courage. These, together, we believe give us the personal and spiritual grounding we need to take action to sustain the interconnection of life and to live our values by making a world that is more just and compassionate for all. We work in many ways (Sunday services, small groups for spiritual exploration, religious education for all ages, gatherings for fellowship and social action in the community) to lead members to feel the internal fire and confidence that leads them to live their lives in accordance with their personal values and beliefs. As a renowned Unitarian from more than a century ago said, ‘Let us have a church for the whole person: truth for the mind, good works for the hands, and love for the heart.’ I look forward to welcoming you to our congregation!
