Global Justice Working Group CONTACT: Bob Stevenson, 729-3765, stevbob@magma.ca PURPOSE: To encourage our Congregation to deliberate on issues of social justice, advocate for social change, and join with other people of faith and goodwill. ACTIVITIES: We have promoted the education of our Congregation and the community with teach-ins such as "Reclaiming the Commons" and panel discussions on the issue of trade agreements. Most recently we have been doing letter writing on a variety of topics such as cuts to our municipal budgets. Donations have been made to several groups promoting social justice. OPPORTUNITIES: Individuals are encouraged to bring their social justice concerns to the group for discussion and action.
At a NAFTA protest in front of External Affairs, two of our grandmothers climbed the barricades.
